London Fashion Week nekter helsesjekk
British Fashion Council foreslo i fjor en helsesjekk for modeller som gikk på catwalken. Dette har ingen av de fire største motebyene tenkt å følge.
Dette begynte da to sør amerikanske modeller døde av sult. Det var Caroline Reston som bare ble 21 år gammel. Hun var 170 cm høy og veide bare 36 kilo. Luisel Ramos døde også etter å ha bare spist salat og sukkerfri brus i tre måneder. British Fashion Council (BFC) har sagt at man må følge en helsesjekk, ”Model Health Inquiry” for modeller som er helt ned i størrelse 0.
Karen Diamond, en av Europas største modellbyråer sier: “The idea of a model health certificate is not a bad idea in itself, but it’s just impossible to police and to govern. That’s why it hasn’t been implemented at this stage because there’s just no way of doing it. Who’s to say that a girl who gets this certificate, lets say it’s valid for a year, isn’t going to be OK in six months time or a year’s time. You just don’t know.The girls generally are not unhealthy.”
Susan Ringwood fra Beating Eating Disorders sier: “The British Fashion Council have stepped away from one of the fundamental recommendations of the Model Health Inquiry,” she said. Fashion is fantastic, it can be wonderful but there are some aspects of it that are still actually quite toxic.”
